Joshua 1:8

"...[B]ut you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success." (Joshua 1:8).

"You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me." (John 5:39).

First Timothy

Chapter 6

  1. Every so often I want to throw out some lines of the bible, such as: v. 9-10 "But those who want to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, and in their eagerness to be rich some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pains."
Because of course, I know that I/we are an exception and could be very responsibly rich right? But I have to think about whether that is possible. We heard Bill talk about the successful gentleman whose life was empty - and it must be near impossible to not get "sucked" into "more more more".

-on another note: how difficult to hold the right attitude towards your master as a servant.

  2. Good point, Mary. God makes some people wealthy for a reason and Paul addresses those people at the end. However, for the rest of us it's important to remain content and to work hard with what we're given.

I like the way this chapter ends with v. 20: "Avoid the profane chatter and contradictions of what is falsely called knowledge..." It's amazing that Paul wrote this 2000 years ago!

Point to ponder: How do we remain content with what we have while still trying to better ourselves and lives? Are these counter intuitive?

  3. That IS amazing Josh.... Proof that Paul was filled with the Holy Spirit.

    Point to ponder question....

I think our contentment must be Jesus alone. Like Paul said, to live is Christ, to die is gain. When we trust and lean on Him daily, He will take care of the rest....Seek first the Kingdom of God and all things will be added.

Hope you guys are doing good! I missed seeing you this week!
