September 20 - Romans 3

  1. This chapter is loaded - perhaps one of the more familiar chapters in the bible as much of it is quoted regularly. Paul breaks down the depravity of man, the sentencing of the law, our hopelessness, and the AMAZING grace given by God through the blood of Jesus. Faith in Christ is our only hope, yet Paul says in verse 11, "...there is none that seek after God..." So then even our faith is a gift from God. I think this chapter paints a profound picture of how absolutely hopeless we are apart from the grace of God.

  2. I like how the chapter ends. It reminds me of when Jesus said, I did not come to destroy the law but to fulfill it. Our faith in Christ fulfills the law we otherwise would be judged by. Wow! How great is the love of God!

  3. I also like the ending in that the faithful uphold the law, not because it saves them - only God's grace saves the believer yet the law is anything but useless. I think of Fusco's message not too long ago in that we are not saved by our works, but rather our works are a reflection of our salvation. That is such a powerful statement.
