Joshua 1:8
"...[B]ut you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success." (Joshua 1:8).
"You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me." (John 5:39).
"And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart." (Jeremiah 29:13).
I like this chapter ends in that when the spirit is at work in our life, we are serving God. And it isn't because we have to, it is because we want to. We have a different attitude and we are changed. The challenging part is that it seems as though we are also in transition, or fighting it. Paul talks about the Jews having a veil and how they are stuck in the law and old testament. While I know we're not "stuck" in the old testament, I certainly feel "stuck" in a lot of ways. Last night's Real Life exhibit was good in a way in that it really did open my eyes more. I read books about terrible conditions, and amazing people that try to improve lives of poverty yet I still have no idea. That experience, this chapter explaining how Paul allowed the spirit to work in his life and change people in Corinth, is inspiring to truly let God take hold of our lives.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree Mary(Karyn) There are so many things I take for granted, but I think what I have learned is to be grateful. God does not want anyone to live in poverty, but those of us who do have more than just the basics need to remember how and why we have them...only because of Jesus and all of the thanks goes to Him. I myself, struggle with that and I am just now realizing nothing happens because I did it, only because God allows me to.
